What is mediation?

Mediation is a voluntary dispute resolution process in which the parties work together towards a resolution with the assistance of a mediator who facilitates the conversation. Many people have found mediation to be an effective way to reach agreements in their divorce. The foundation of mediation is that understanding what is important to each party and a problem-solving approach can lead to successful outcomes. Mediation often results in parties reaching agreements that they were unable to reach on their own.

The mediator

A certified mediator acts as a facilitator and guide, and helps with communication. The role of the mediator is not to tell you what to do, but instead to manage and direct the conversation and provide a structure that is conducive to resolving differences. A mediator does not impose any decision — instead, the mediator guides the discussion to help you make good decisions. A good mediator will have many tools to help the discussion be productive and to keep the discussion on track. A mediator is an impartial facilitator, not an advocate and is not acting as an attorney.

What we do - Family Mediation

We help couples and family members, de-escalate interpersonal conflict, and reach a consensual written agreement by facilitating respectful and productive communication.

Parenting Plan. A written plan that states with whom the children will primarily live, a definitive schedule for visiting with the other parent, who will make major decisions regarding the children’s lives, and other important issues. We can also assist you in plan modifications and review or problem solving in an existing parenting plan.
Property division. A written agreement dividing your marital assets and debts.
Spousal Maintenance. Legal award by which one party agrees to provide economically for the other over a period of time after their separation.
Parent-Teen disputes. Parent-Teen Mediation is a helpful alternative that promotes healthy communication between Parents and Teens about their issues.
